Carnage in the chicken coop

Last night we’ve had an unexpected visit in the chicken coop with devastating results. Seven of our chickens were killed, two are missing and one managed to escape. We don’t know for sure who did it, but we believe it was a ferret. A few chickens were decapitated, some I found dead. One was dragged and left in the garden. The ferret must have taken the chicken with grey feathers because was the fattest. I collected all of them and pilled them up in one place. To my surprise the chicken who escaped climbed on top to pay her respects, […]

Power outage in my area

This morning around 5 am I have experienced a power outage in my area and the entire valley went into complete darkness. In all fairness, it was snowing quite heavily throughout the night and sometimes power lines can be affected. I don’t know what actually has happened, but luckily the power came back in about two hours. I took my phone out, turn off the flash and snap a 30 seconds long exposure image with the camera against the window. After a bit of processing this is the final image. On an overcast day this is how it looks like.

366-2020 – Goat Dance

Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is about a Romanian tradition called the Goat Dance. Capra is the name of a traditional Romanian dance, performed around New Year. It’s executed by a young man with a goat mask and a sheep skin on his back. The ‘goat’ and his companions go from house to house, dancing at each door on New Year’s Eve. This custom is first mentioned in Descriptio Moldaviae by Dimitrie Cantemir. FREE Digital Image Hungry for more beautiful images? Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is about the “Snowy Bob” the snowman ⛄️. When I asked my daughter what’s the snowman’s name she quickly responded: “Snowy Bob”. We used pebble for eyes, carrot for nose, two parsnips for mouth and two brooms for hands. Let’s hope tomorrow will be able to make a bigger snowman ⛄️. In this image the snow appears orange, because the street lights contain vapour of sodium and cast a orange hue in the presence of electricity. Below is the same image in which I used the eye […]

Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is an image of Doftana Valley near Bradet in the glorious morning sunshine. -3 degrees Celsius in Bradet this morning, but it feels epic. My hands were frozen on the drone’s remote control, and for the first time in a while I took my pictures and returned the drone safely home before the low battery warning message kicked in. 351-2020 – Shooting for the Stars

Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is all about shooting for the stars. This image was shot with Canon PowerShot G16 with its “Stars” preset as a JPEG image. Normally, I would wirelessly transfer the images to my iPhone but for some unknown reason I couldn’t, so I had to take the card out, pop it into my laptop, transfer the images to the cloud folder, from where I could access them, pick my favourite, edit it with Lightroom Mobile app and export it in two “flavours”, one small resolution – for this […]

347-2020 – Brown Boots

Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is about my new brown boots from Primark. These boots only cost £20 and look like the ones made of leather, but at this price, it’s very unlikely. Another clue is the lack of labels which mention the materials used during production. 343-2020 – Our Christmas Decorations

Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is about our Christmas decorations. Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is a product shot of Elle Oil’s dvb, a small bottle filled with a “magic potion” which some say that it is the antidote for COVID-19. 338-2020 – Beautiful Christmas Decorations

Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is another beautiful Christmas decorations I encountered during my evening walk through my neighbourhood. In a post a few days ago, I have mentioned two other houses’ Christmas decorations, which incidentally are right next to this one. 337-2020 – German Sausage from Basildon Christmas Market

Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is of German Sausage from Basildon Christmas Market. Today, a four-week lockdown ends, but England enters a tougher version of its three tier system of restrictions. Some restrictions will be relaxed over Christmas to allow three households to form a “Christmas bubble”, because we all know that the virus is not a threat during the festive period. Anyways, let’s take advantage of the ‘government’s kindness’ and enjoy a tasty German sausage and a glass of mulled wine, during the lunch break. Like, comment & share!

336-2020 – Contrails or Chemtrails

Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is about the white trails planes leave behind in the sky: Contrails or Chemtrails? Allegedly, contrails or vapour trails are line-shaped clouds produced by aircraft engine exhaust or changes in air pressure, typically at aircraft cruising altitudes several miles above the Earth’s surface. Contrails are composed primarily of water, in the form of ice crystals. Some believe that long-lasting condensation trails are “chemtrails” consisting of chemical or biological agents left in the sky by high-flying aircraft, sprayed for nefarious purposes undisclosed to the general public. It’s true […]

335-2020 – BMW Servicing Specialists

Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is about Power Developments: the actual BMW Servicing Specialists in Basildon. A few days ago my car developed some ABS issues, and happy to say that now are resolved, thanks to the specialists at Power Developments. My takeaway from this experience is: don’t use any garage and try to find a garage specialised on the kind of car you are having, even though is a bit more expensive. The previous garage I went to asked £160 to fix my issue and they couldn’t, but wasted a day […]

332-2020 – Little Princess

Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is about a little princess who visited our Ozgo Productions studio to celebrate her birthday with a photo session. I used a Canon 5D Mark 3 with a 70-200mm f/2.8L lens and a black background because she was wearing a yellow dress and I wanted the greatest contrast between the subject and the background. 329-2020 – Mother and Child Statue in Basildon Town Centre

Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is about the mother and child statue in Basildon Town Centre. If you look closely, you might notice that someone considered that the initial sculpture is missing something to be a complete work of art, so they have added a traffic cone on top. Not the most funny art installation, but still a creative approach to and existent iconic ‘The Mother and Child’ fountain situated in the central plaza of the Basildon town centre. Luckily, the addition is not permanent and the traffic cone can be easily […]

Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is about the girl in the swing with huge pink boots. Obviously, my daughter doesn’t have huge feet, but they may look huge if I used a wide angle lens and her feet are close to the lens. Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is about one of those proud father moments when my daughter went behind the lens, directing and actually taking pictures of her friends. Usually, with any other activity her attention span is really short, a few minutes the most before she comes up with one of her lines: “I’m tired” Or “I’m bored”.Today after 30 minutes she was still going and I had to turn off the studio lights to signal that the photo session is over. Some of the images from this photoshoot can be seen […]

308-2020 – Bananas

Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is about two bananas on a mirror in the Ozgo Productions studio. The setup was really simple, one flash head shooting through a snoot, about 45 degrees from the subject pointing down. The main benefit of using a snoot is controlling the light. It restricts the spread to a narrow beam, so that some areas of the frame are not lit at all. In our tabletop example, the bananas are highlighted and the background is totally black. Today’s photo of the day, part of “a photo a day challenge 2020”, is about a discovery I’ve made about masks, and I can say with 100% certainty that masks do work…when painting the fence! Painting the fence when self isolating is the perfect excuse to wear a mask and “protect” everyone around you against COVID-19.
